Losing Weight: What works for me?

Losing WeightA lot of people praise me for having lost 20 KG’s this year. I get asked how did you do it or what is your secret (Like I am hiding something). I can honestly say there is no secret. Just some common sense.

When I think back to what I have done (And Continue to do) the first thing that springs to mind is developing the Goal, the Want and the Drive to accomplish this hefty goal. I really think in today’s society this is the hardest part of losing weight.

Everyone seems so focussed on the how rather than the why. I can tell you now 99% of all diets work but if you are not prepared or focused or have a strong enough goal. It does not matter one Iota. Not even two Iota’s.

So Step 1 is to Visualize the goal. When I did this It was the 7th of Janurary 2009. I decided to pick a date and a goal that was achievable if I set my mind to it. Here is what I picked.

Goal Date: 25 December 2009
Current Weight : 128KG
Goal Weight: 100 KG

Bonus Goals: Build Muscle, Tone Body

I gave myself a year to lose the weight. Now this is important. How long have you been overweight? Now most people will have to think it is usually 2+ Years easy. For me it would be an easy 6 years. So 1 year to lose 28 KG’s of Fat (Probably more with putting on muscle) is an achievable goal. This is Step one getting the buy in of your subconcious mind.

Step 2 is Visualizing when you know you have succeeded. I chose Christmas Day as my family have a routine that is easy to visualize. I see my self waking up on that day. Stretching in bed with a big smile on my face knowing I had achieved my goal. I get up and get on the scales. and see 99.8KG I jump for joy and do the Joey from friends to myself in the mirror ” How You Doing”. I feel the feeling of how great this feels. The shiver up my spine with excitement. I put on fresh new clothes as a gift to myself.  On this day I see friends I have not seen for a year who are shocked and surprised at just how great I look. We embrase in a warm loving hug….

That is my Visualization. This is how intense it must be. You need to think about this as much as you can. I try and do it each night or at least every few nights or mornings. It is now August and I am sitting at 109KG. Not bad… On track. I also have a lot of muscle which is good. It is all go. In the time to lose weight I have tried different exercises, sports, fasting, low carb, high protein, super foods, low calorie diets and everything inbetween. I have taken what works for me and thrown back the rest.

I have had ups and downs but I know that my goal will be achieved. It is so stronly instilled now in my sub concious there is no way out. In a good way.

I will post up in the next few days a daily Routine that I have developed to show you how my lifestyle goes now.

Alternative Medicines – Why The Silence?

If there are Alternative Medicines and natural treatments that really work, why don’t we hear more about them? I don’t think there are many true conspiracies around, but this is one of those areas that makes me wonder. The movement between government posts and positions in the pharmaceutical corporations is well documented. This easy movement between the boardrooms and the FDA and other agencies certainly leaves room for abuse and “back door agreements.”

More often than not, though, there is just a conspiracy-of-common-interest that prevents safe alternative medicines from coming to market, or from becoming widely known. For example, drug companies don’t want the competition of safe alternatives to their drugs. Meanwhile, it is politically safer for the FDA to not allow a product, because if they approve something and it causes any problems, they get the blame. This is a convenient coinciding of interests.

Also, natural products, like silymarin (Milk Thistle Extract), which is used all over Europe to treat poisonings and to protect the liver, are legal here, but not well known. This is because, as a natural product, there is no way to patent it. Without being able to exclude others from selling it, no company can afford to spend the millions it would take to get it approved as a medicine here.

A natural product also can’t be marketed heavily. Imagine if a large company spent millions to promote a medicinal herb. As soon as they got the public’s attention, all the smaller companies could undercut them on the price, since they spent nothing on marketing, and a plant product is usually the same no matter what the name on the label. No company wants to spend big money on a product they don’t have an exclusive right too.

When a plant isn’t approved as a natural treatment, there are no pharmaceutical reps out there educating doctors about it (Didn’t you know that’s how doctors keep educated?). In addition, even if a doctor has read about a useful plant, he is more likely to face a malpractice suit for an allergic reaction to an alternative medicine than from killing someone with a “standard and accepted” treatment. Which do you think he’ll recommend?

Companies face the same issues of liability. In addition, the companies are limited in what they can say about these natural products. This is why you can look all over the box that some plant medicines come in, and never once see a mention of what it is for. It is tough to learn about these natural treatments, isn’t it?

In other words, if you want to know about Alternative Medicines and medical treatment, you have to look outside the mainstream for your information. You have to read the magazines that cover these alternatives, and sometimes, when it is safe, you have to even experiment a little on yourself.

As for my own approach, I like to see that there is actually some real research that demonstrates a benefit. Anecdotal evidence doesn’t mean much. People get better all the time, and credit whatever they happened to be using at the time. On the other hand, if it is inexpensive and safe, like eating blueberries to improve vision, I’ll try almost anything once.

Do natural treatments work? Sometimes. I have twice removed skin growths from my face that may have even been pre-cancerous. They were there for many years, yet it took just weeks to make them disappear using a simple and cheap natural product. I have also witnessed the fastest healing of a cut (on my foot) that I’ve ever seen, after applying a common plant to it. Some alternative medicines really do work.

New 7 Day Diet to be released

Hi everyone

People have been asking me recently what is the best way to start a change in lifestyle when it comes to eating?

I always say shock the system and make a commitment. By doing this you show yourself and your body that you can be successful when you set your mind to something. The goal of this is not just to lose weight and detoxify it is to prove you can go on making changes to your lifestyle. Most people’s bodies have had little experience at losing weight successfully. The more you can prove this to your mind the better you will be. Short sharp stabs at it work the best.

When i first decided to lose weight and get healthy I did the Lemon Detox Diet. This was such a fantastic show of personal will power I have been able to continue changing my life ever since and I improve my habits daily. I know I can succeed after that!

Since then through my research of different bases of nutrition I have come up with my own 7 Day Diet that will help you detoxify your body and lose weight. 3 friends have just completed testing the diet and have lost between 5 and 7 kilo’s in a week. Wow huh.

The diet is based on the 7 day hospital diets but has been revamped. I have added the principals of Fasting and Food Combing to make this a step ahead of the rest. By doing this your digestion system will be able to rest and detoxify at the same time you are losing weight.

I bet you are saying ok Stephen how much are you going to charge me for this. Other books have cost me $30 and not worked at all.

This is the great thing for the first 100 people it is free as I want people to get fit!. On top of that I want you to send a copy of the E-Diet to all your friends and get them losing weight to.

Simple as that. Feel free to sign up for an advanced copy on the right of your screen. It is only 10 pages long so you do not even have to read much!!

Have a great one and remember to post your results.

Stephen

Intermittent Fasting 2

Posted by admin | Posted in Health | Posted on 21-05-2009

As I said in section 1 most people really thought I was crazy.. My dad more than anyone, is stuck in his way of thinking. “Fasting is only starving yourself”. If you look at the deffinition starving is having no choice about eating, fasting is not eating or drinking by choice.

I decided to show him that i could do it. The thing to remember is people are fasting every single day over the many sea’s of the world. It has great positive effects like:-

Increasing Insulin Sensitivity
More Control over your mind
Clarity
Weight Loss
Will power increases
Clearer Skin
Better Immune System
Increased hGh release – (I learn’t that from Eat Stop Eat – There is a link on the right of the page somewhere)

I managed to complete the detox all 7 days. I was over the moon and nearly at Saturn that is how great I felt. 2 weeks went by and I went back to my normal 3 meals a day. I really disliked it and started putting weight on again not as much to be fair. So if you are just wanting to do a short fast I do recommend this to heal your body and reset your stomach. By doing this you start to get a bit more familiar with what hunger is. As we seem to forget that a KFC commercial does not really mean you are hungry haha. (off the point the colour orange is surpose to make you hungry. Go figure.)

I decided I disliked breakfast the old notion of eat your breakfast or you will not be able to concentrate is rubbish. It may be different in children who are growing but even then I think some more research is needed.

I replaced breakfast with a black coffee and some specific vitamins. I felt much better in the mornings. I chucked in some Lemon water and Green Tea and stopped eating lunch. Like that. Very little hunger pains. The only hunger I started to have was about 1pm when I was used to lunch and so I just held off until 5pm and as I trained my body this died down as it new it would be fet at 5pm. Just like when you train a cat to when it is fed and it is always there on time. That was my hunger.

I was on my way to a better body and better health. I can honestly say I am 25 days in to it now and I feel great. I have learnt some great tricks to help out and I will pop these in another blog post. If you want to learn more about IF(that’s what the cool kids call it) Check out the Eat Stop Eat link in the links to the right. It is a great book!

Also comment on any of the blogs and I will answer your questions !

Remember 99% of diets will work if you buy in to them. If you plan to do it for 3 weeks then stop it won’t. You must create a lifestyle. Your Lifestyle can change but you have to be committed. Fasting works for me as It does not bother me to eat breakfast or lunch. It means I can spend my lunch hour reading a book and learning which is much more rewarding. I also can sleep in for 15 minutes longer as I do not have to make breakfast or lunch.

Intermittent Fasting

My first post on the new blog. How Exciting!

I would like to start off by talking about Intermittent Fasting. This is a tool I have recently become accustom to. Well let’s start at the beginning. I became aware of this when I decided I should lose weight. I am 6ft and quite a big build but the problem was I was a much bigger build than I should. I weighed in at a 122kg. The funny thing was I was very healthy. I never really got sick or had any other problems.

Like most people who decide to lose weight I was sick of being the big guy. That name that sticks with you. Mine was Big Boy. I was not meant to be offensive more of just a tag as I was a big guy. I can tell you though it really hurt. I have a great personality, I’m caring and smarter than most (Still working on Modesty).

I was already on a kick from Giving up the Booze and Smokes so I thought why not tackle all 3. I will write a separate article on the Smokes and Booze or you will be here forever haha. I went in search of a weight loss program that would work. I read page after page after page of different idea’s as im sure you know the amount of diets is ridiculous. The amount that conflict with each other is even worse. How are you suppose to choose which one to follow.

The simple answer is don’t.

I mean it do not pick a diet that is out there. You are a fool to. You need to choose a lifestyle. If you choose to go on a crazy diet like only eating meat or doing a rain dance before each meal you will go crazy and the minute you stop you will hate yourself and eat more. Trust me.

I decided I need to change slowly, I need to change on my terms and I needed to stop listening to people close to me.

I needed to find my own way. I read website after website taking in all the plus’s and minus’s of the different foods and techniques. I then said lets create my own path.

As I eluded to earlier I had already given up the drink and smokes so I was on a will power high! So I said what is the next thing that I need to change. The decision I made was to start with a detox. I went with the Master Cleanse or here in New Zealand it is called the Lemon Detox Diet. I told a few people about it who thought I was crazy. Not to eat for 7 days and live off water, lemons and palm syrup. As I mentioned I was not listening to them anymore and my body would be the judge. Lets say I was not out of the woods yet.

To be continued……..
